Events in Budapest
Teresa Salguiero & Lusitânia Ensemble (Portugal) "La Serena"
Teresa Salgueiro first became popular as a member of the Portuguese fado inspired Madredeus group. She has been making records with the group since 1986 and has entranced audience at the Palace of Arts on three separate occasions.
Last year, she made her solo album Obrigado and has also been involving herself in other projects, most recently as the voice for Jorge Varrecoso’s Lusitânia Ensemble. With her ethereal voice and inspired by an idea from Madredeus founder Pedro Ayres Magalhaes, she is now evoking the songs of the sirens, whose magical song enticed sailors to their doom upon the rocks. In her own angelic fashion, Teresa Salgueiro will be submerging herself off the coast of the Iberian peninsula and resurfacing on the shores of France, Italy, Brazil, Mexico and Africa, together with their songs. And like the sailors, we will also find her quite irresistible.

MOL Jazz Festival Budapest 2007 – closing concert
One of the leading Budapest jazz festivals is now celebrating its fifth edition. The MOL Jazz Festival again presents an exciting series of events, as we have now come to expect. Once again this year, each concert will take place in the Ferencváros district (which includes the Palace of Arts) and the five day exploration of jazz again explores given themes. This year, centre stage is given to the guitar and since this instrument enjoys an important role in the most diverse of neighbouring trends – in rock, avant-garde music and world music – the Festival welcomes the finest Hungarian and international exponents of jazz fusions with these styles. There will also be appearances from “mixed teams” of Hungarian and international musicians that bring with it the potential for exciting new musical discoveries, a feature that has become a hallmark for this festival. The Palace of Arts now provides the venue for the alpha and omega of this festival, the opening and closing concerts, for the third occasion.
